Spiral bevel gear is widely used in many industries as a critical component in mechanical products.However,the complex geometric shape of tooth surfaces make its 3D solid modeling confront many difficulties.At present,it is difficult to accurately model the geometric shape of spiral bevel gear's tooth surfaces by using the CAD software,which is commonly used in the market.Though the 3D model of the gear can be precisely created by using CAD software with the help of numerical calculation,there are a lot of complicated computation to do and the model can't be reused.Therefore,it is imperative to develop the special simulation system for spiral bevel gear.According to the manufacturing characteristic of spiral bevel gear,this paper studies on NC machining principle and simulation method of spiral bevel gear by means of vector analysis method, velocity-differentiating method and secondary development technology for AutoCAD etc.And the NC machining process of spiral bevel gear has been simulated by computer.In this paper,the following work has been mainly completed:1)Through vector analysis method,the transformation from traditional mechanical tilt method machining milling machine to PhoenixⅡCNC spiral bevel gear milling machine is realized.In the meanwhile,the formulas for transformation are deduced.And then from the point of view of kinematics,the coefficients of expression of NC milling machine's every axis is solved by velocity-differentiating method.2)The program of the coefficients of expression of PhoenixⅡCNC spiral bevel gear milling machine's every axis is developed by MATLAB.And the program is embedded in the main program of VB.3)The paper studies the parameterized modeling of the cutter and workpiece,and puts forward their simplified model.In addition,the computational method and formula of 3D solid modeling are given.Simultaneously,the paper briefly introduces how to realize the motion control of cutter and workpiece,and how to realize the simulation of single-side cutting method and spread -blade cutting method.4)Based on VB 6.0 development tool and AutoCAD development platform, using the ActiveX Automation technology and MATLAB,a spiral bevel gear's numerical control machining simulation system is designed and developed.
