Polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane(POSS)is kind of compound who s esinple structureis is (RSiO 1.5 ) n . If introducing activity or functional R group in thesilicon atom and made of polymer, we will form a kind of new structure and specialproperties of POSS organic-inorganic hybrid material which is molecular level. Withthis kind of material as intermediates we can conveniently prepare different structureand function of the nanometer composite materials. Take this kind of material andorganic polymer for chemistry connection it can be easily realized on themodification for organic polymer to improve a series of mechanical properties ofabrasion resistance, hardness and strength for the organic polymer. Therefore, furtherresearch this kind of material well be very important theoretical significance andpractical value.The mechanical behaviors of the propyl-POSS polystyrene (P-POSS-PS) nanohybrid materials and the polystyrene (PS), under the nanoinedtation, have beenresearched by the molecular mechanics simulations. Through the nanoindentationsimulations, calculated the hardness of the two kinds of polymer materials increasing molecular simulation of nanotechnology. The hardness results showe thatsmall quantity of POSS can make the hardness of naormal polymers get an increaseabove 10 times. POSS can be considered as the framework in the hybrid materialsand make them resist higer press loading, and at the same time the reinforcedmaterials get the shape remember ability to some degree. Use a foumulas which hasthe relationships between polymer and impress depth. Which accurately describe therelationships of hardness and impress depth in nano indentation testing. Thehardnesses of the two kinds of materials were corrected and the reliable indeationdepths in the practical experiment were given by using this equation.Finally we discussed the size effect of nano hardness.
