In recent years, steel industy developed rapidly,which has became the foundation of the national economy in ourcountry. As the economic development of our country, the requirements of high accuracy and ultra-thin strip steelbecome greater and the requirements of its quality become higher. The common4-high mill or6-high mill no longermeets the demands of the desired products which only can be produced by multi-roll mill, among which the twelvehigh rolling mill is most widely used.In this paper, the three-dimensional parametric model of12-high rolling mill is set up by Pro/E. work rolls,intermediate rolls, and support rolls are accomplished, and the spatial positions are authenticated. Secondly, the three-dimensional design of adjustment devices is accomplished, including rolling line adjustment, radial adjustment, axialadjustment, and hydraulic screwdown adjustment. Thirdly, the stand of12-high rolling mill are built according to thenew12-high rolling mill, the selection and caculation of the main technical parameters are accomplished. Finally, allthe components are assembled together, and the design of the main part of12-high rolling mill has been accomplished.By combining with finite element method basical theory, based on the main design, with the large-scale generalFEM analysis software ABAQUS as analysis tool, and with the maximum load as calculation load, the elasticdeformation of the mill stand is analyzed,and get the results of deformation, stress, safety coefficient, and thedeformation and the value of each node and element.In addition, through the research of finite element contact algorithm of rolls system of12-high rolling mill, theelastic deformation of the rollers system is simulated with the limited rolling conditions, and gets the stress, strain,safety factor and displacement distribution condition of the rollers. All these prove that the rollers are satisfy theintensity and rigidity requirements, and the dimension parameters are reasonable. This laid the foundation for the rollershape optimization.The changes of longitudinal stiffness and transverse stiffness are studied on the basis of the finite element analysismodel, and the infinite conditions of the transverse stiffness are defined. With different bandwidth, intermediate rollersshift, the curves of longitudinal stiffness and transverse stiffness are got. Depending on all above studies, it can get thebasis theory of controlling the shape and thickness of plates of the new12-high rolling mill, and get the optimaladjustment scheme of roller shape. All these provide technical support for the quality control of the new12-high rollingmill.
