With glass fiber and aramid fiber having more high-grade and high value-addeddevelopment, the control of fiber quality becomes an important project. Especially, the filamenthairiness becomes an important quality index. Due to different properties, the shapes of thefilament hairiness of glass fiber yarns and aramid fiber yarns are different. Glass fiber is stiff andhas poor performance in flexibility. Consequently, the filament hairiness of glass fiber are quitestiff and brittle. On the contrary, aramid fibers are flexible linear macromolecule and the cohesionbetween fibers are quite small. Such aramid fibers are easy to tangle and have yarn hairinessproblems. At present, there is no mature device for the detection of these two different yarns. The thesis is based on the previous research on hairiness detection methods. Theprojection counting method has been proved that it is more suitable for glass fiber hairinessdetection. On the basis of YG172hairiness detection machine, a new hairiness detection machineis built through replacing the guide wheel and transmission wheel and changing the path of yarns. Two different hairiness shapes can be well detected. This thesis not only has solved the problem oflow efficiency by manual detection, but also can reduce the energy consumption and cost. Such ithas important application value and practical significant. What’s more, it promotes thedevelopment of glass fiber and aramid fiber yarn hairiness detection. The main research contentsand conclusions are as follows:(1) The detection rate has no significant effect on detection accuracy, such high speedcan be used in order to detect hairiness fast and effectively; to different forms of hairiness, detection accuracy of stiff and brittle hairiness is higher than that flexible hairiness.(2) The numbers and forms of hairiness is related to the characteristics of fibers andfineness of yarns. Generally, the more flexible fibers are, fibers are easier to generate hairinessbecause of friction. And thicker yarns are, the number of fibers in the cross section increases.(3) Repeated friction increases the damage of glass fiber and aramid yarns stage by stage. With the course of friction, the outer layer of fibers are firstly be damaged such the exposed partsbecome hairiness. Because of friction, glass fiber yarns become thinner and even cut. On thecontrary, aramid fiber yarns are easy to generate by friction because of low fiber cohesion andweakness between fibers.
