Producing qualified billet is one of the main tasks of steel production. The mold asthe central equipment of continuous casting production, which has great influence on thequality of casting billet. The reasonable flow in the mold can promote the removal rate ofinclusion, and make mould casting produce enough shell thickness to prevent bleed-out.Flow pattern in the mold is mainly affected by the parameters of submerged nozzleand the process parameters of continuous casting. The parameters of submerged nozzleincluding exit area ratio, at the bottom of submerged entry nozzle shape, and the processparameters including casting speed and depth of immersion. Due to the direct observationof flow field in the mold which is very hard to realize, so the current main methods on theflow field in mold were analyzed by numerical simulation and physical simulation, theCFD software Fluent is used to do numerical simulation. The water model of the mould isused to do physical simulation. Oil is used to simulate the protective slag. Through thecorresponding instruments to measure the surface velocity, wave height, and use tracer torecord liquid steel flow state.Continuous casting billet section of a domestic company production is330mm×150mm,350mm×150mm,380mm×150mm,420mm×150mm,440mm×150mm.Using submerged nozzle of angle15°and exit area ratio2.63to produce the billet. Slagentrapment and a series of quality problem occurred in practical application. In order tosolve this problem, process parameters and the nozzle parameters is analyzed in theproduction of various, and finally points out that different submerged nozzle should beused for different section of crystallizer.330mm×150mm cross section should usesubmerged nozzle of angle25°andexit area ratio2.42for production,380mm×150mm,420mm×150mm,440mm×150mm cross sections should use submerged nozzle ofangle15°andexit area ratio2.42for production. The different immersion depth is used fordifferent casting speed in order to produce qualified casting target.
