In the fields of modern manufacturing industry, CNC cutting tools have been widely used in the production and processing, in which the tool wear produced by itself will directly affect the machining quality of workpiece. The measurement accuracy of the cutting tool parameters, which is directly related to the business conditions and market competitiveness. At present, as the diversification of CNC tool detection instrument on the market, the traditional tool detector is generally the manual mode. It is difficult to realize automation. At the same time the tool detection instrument is used by traditional projection mode in automatic vision. The degree of automatic measurement is not high. To solve this problem, all things considered, this thesis demonstrates the research design of the cutting tool automatic visual detector. Compared with the conventional detector, it possessed the advantages of few artificial factors, high repetitive positioning precision and high automation efficiency. Meanwhile, it can also realize the automatic measurement of the cutting tool parameter. The research can be more effective and lay a solid foundation for the traditional from off-line detection to the online detection.Firstly, this paper understand and expatiates the market situation of CNC tool and defines the background, the status quo, development trend at home and abroad of CNC tool detection instrument,then the paper launched a research and analysis from four aspects that is the image processing of CNC tool, the parameters measurement of CNC tool, the overall structure design of cutting tool detector and the precision analysis.According to the actual working condition, cutting tool is seriously influenced by environment in the process of image processing. Tool image are processed by using MATLAB image processing software,which includes the gray, histogram analysis, introducing the noise and median filter(5*5template),binarization and so on.It can lay the foundations for the subsequent cutting tool parameter measurement. In the process of cutting tool parameter measurement, this paper adopts canny for coarse positioning of tool.Based on the interpolation method of subpixel are used in edge detection of tool, which is used by the custom template optimization. Outline of the tool is fitted by the least squares method.This paper put forward the application of using the minimum perimeter polygon approximation in the cutter contour extraction. The experimental results show that optimization and application of the method have greatly improved to image effects.At the same time, according to the relationship of the actual cutting tool working position and position of contour line, what the paper put forward the method that combines the datum and the coordinate system is in order to locate the coordinate system of the profile of cutter. As a benchmark, it can realize comprehensive measuring of tool main parameters, and judge whether the cutting tool can continue to use according to this standard. Compared with the traditional measuring method,the measurement results show that the method improve the measuring accuracy of the cutting tool parameters and lay the theoretical foundation for the tool detection instrument of on-line automatic measurement.In addition, to determine the precision of the tool detector better,in this paper, the key component structure of the tool detection instrument has been carried on the theoretical analysis, calculation and check in theory. Meanwhile,to prevent the effect of gravity and external force of detecting instrument, the paper take the entity simulation analysis for the precision error caused by the structural entity, which has determined the rationality of the structure precisionof cutting tool visual detector.
