The scaled, intensive development of pig industry makes a positive contribution to protecting national pork supply balance, increasing farming income, keeping stable general price level, and promoting harmonious and stable development of economic and social. Meanwhile, numerous farming wastes cause serious pollution to environmental media such as air, soil and water, triggering a series of human and animal health problems, numerous farming wastes are becoming a major source of non-point source pollution in rural areas. Hence, in the increasingly prominent background of aquaculture resources and environmental bottleneck restricting, accelerating the transformation of economic growth mode of pig industry, improving pig farmers’ environmental risk perception level, and changing the main body’s traditional economic behavior to environmental behavior are imperative for sustainable development of pig industry. How to both achieve scaled and intensive development of pig industry and follow the developing concept of resource-saving and environment-friendly society, avoiding environmental pollution risk of livestock sector is an urgent issue to be addressed in current theoretical and practical studies. To study the formation and influencing mechanisms of scaled pig farmers’ environmental risk perception and their environmental behavior, on the basis of relevant theories and literature studies on environmental risk perception and environmental behavior, this paper conducted field investigations for scaled pig farmers in the main pig producing areas of China using Participatory Rural Assessment(PRA).By establishing the research model of influencing factors of environmental risk perception and impacts of environmental risk perception on environmental behavior, with SPSS17.0, using quantitative analysis, this paper conducted an empirical analysis on scaled pig farmers’ environmental risk perception and their environmental behavior. And accordingly proposed appropriate policy recommendations to improve pig farmers’ environmental risk perception, and enhance the environmental behavior ability. The results showed that :1) There are significant differences in pig farmers’ perceived environmental risk perception levels of environmental pollution, environmental policy and environmental governance.2) Individual characteristics, farm operating characteristics, information factors, social factors have significant impacts on environmental risk perception. That is, pig farmers’ environmental risk perception has relation with their age, education level, but also with farm operating conditions, cooperating relationship with surrounding farmers, as well as government support policies for the pig industry.3) Scaled pig farmers’ environmental risk perception have significant positive impact on their environmental behavior. The innovation of this paper is combining the importance of pig industry in economic development of rural areas with the natural coupling characteristic of pig industry and environment, to research the internal relations of pig farmers’ environmental risk perception and their environmental behavior, and to construct an integrative research model for pig farmers’ environmental risk perception causes and its affection. This model helps to expand the research theory of existing environmental risk perception and environmental behavior, and plays a guiding role for the practice applications of pig industry.
