The new drilling equipment has got a great development with the exploration and production of the unconventional resource. Combining the industry conditions on coal bed methane(CBM) resources, a new type of fully-hydraulic CBM drilling machine is put forward based on the investigation of technical parameters such as the lifting structure and principle of mechanics of the new CBM drilling rigs at home and abroad. This type of rig is very suitable for middle-shallow slant well with the special pinion and rack transmission device, which makes them convenient to provide sufficient lifting and down force for the drilling tool. It is one of the representative coal bed gas drilling rigs.One of the critical technologies of CBM drilling machine is the gear-rack jacking system, in this paper, mechanic design and static calculation of the gear rack transmission structure is made with the requirements and actual working conditions of the machine. Then 3D solid modeling of the pinion and rack transmission structure is made and rationality is verified through the motion simulation and interference experiment by using UG NX software. Finally the nonlinear finite element contact analyses(FEA) on different mesh models of the gear rack transmission structure are realized basing on the Hertz theory of elastic contact problem. And analysis is verified between the results obtained by FEA and GB3480-83 involutes cylindrical spur gear carrying capacity method.The finite element analysis on strength and fatigue are also analyzed with the sliding device, which is the key component in the hoisting system of the drilling rig, and structure optimization is made in order to satisfying the strength requirement at the worst operation state. Then ADAMS software is used to simulate and calculate the dynamic characteristics with the simplified model of the hoisting system under one load and different raising speed.
