Cyclopentyl methyl ether (CPME) is a new kind of environmental protection of hydrophobic ethers solvent, can be used to replace tetrahydrofuran,2-methyl tetrahydrofuran, methyl tert-butyl ether and 2,4-dioxane as reaction solvent, used in grignard reaction, coupled chemical reaction, metal reduction reaction, lewis acid reaction and Fried-krogh reaction, etc. In recent years, CPME which has multi-purpose features, got the wide range of applications. It makes such a reaction greatly save material and energy consumption, and the production process of waste liquid treatment costs are greatly reduced. At the same time, because of the relative stability and security features of CPME, the safety of the laboratory and the production unit has been greatly enhanced.In this paper, synthesis process of CPME was studied. Cyclopentene with methanol etherification reaction process route was selected, etherification reaction conditions for reasonable reaction conditions, such as the space velocity, temperature, pressure of cyclopentene etherification reaction, the effect of the optimum mole ratio of cyclopentene and methanol were determined, and the higher cyclopentene etherification reaction one-way conversion rate was obtained. Also etherification catalysts selection and the possibility of catalyst regeneration process, which used in the cyclopentene etherify into CPME, were studied. CPME products with the purity of 99.9% was obtained by distillation methods. By the test results, the medium model of the synthesis process for the cyclopentene and methanol etherify into CPME and the advice of industrialization were studied. The existing technical renovation on the etherification reaction for CPME production device, part of the equipment and pipelines updates, and the security of the industrial production experiment were discussed.
