Tung oil is a kind of natural vegetable oil with several properties such as strong adhesion, light weight, corrosion resistance, insulation, alkali and acid resistance, which has a good prospect in application. Tung oil was modified to prepared acrylate-modified tung oil waterborne insulation varnish by using the higher activity conjugated triene structure on tung oil molecular chain in this paper. Furthermore, acrylate-modified tung oil waterborne antifouling coating was prepared by adding cuprous oxide as antifouling agent. Meanwhile, the structure and properties of relative products were characterized and tested.Acrylate-modified tung oil waterborne resin was synthesized by molten fatty acid method which tung oil, maleic anhydride as raw material, methyl methacrylate (MMA), butyl acrylate (BA) and hydroxypropyl acrylate (HPA) as monomer, N, N-dimethyl ethanolamine as neutralizing agent. Tung oil and maleic anhydride were reacted at 120 ~125℃ for 1.5 h, then the acrylic monomers were polymerized with resin at 83℃ for 3 h under the initiator (AIBN) which the dosage of AIBN was 1.0%. The waterborne insulation varnish could be solidified at a relative low temperature with blocked hexamethylene diisocyanate (HDI) as a curing agent which blocked at 80℃ for 4 h and deblocked at about 122℃. With the increase of maleic anhydride content, the thermal stability of waterborne insulation varnish film was improved, while the water absorption and insulating property was decreased. When the maleic anhydride content was 25% and methyl methacrylate/butyl acrylate (MMA/BA) ratio was 3:1, the varnish had perfect comprehensive performance.Research showed that Cu2O in acrylate-modified tung oil waterborne antifouling coating was released from layer in Cu2+, providing the antifouling effect. It was found that by inhibiting antibacterial and diatoms, antifouling coatings exhibited well antimicrobial activity against S.auresu and inhibit the growth and attachment of diatom, what’s more, the inhibiting effect was increased with the increase of the Cu2O content. The results showed that antifouling coating had a satisfied antifouling effect when the Cu2O content reached 20%, then the stable copper release rates of antifouling coating were higher than 40 μg·cm-2·d-1.
