Grinding is one of the most widely used of precision and ultra precision machining technology, which can obtain the finished surface with high precision and high quality as the last procedure of the machining. Grinding machining technology has big advantage compared with the machining pattern of turning and milling. It is easy to cause grinding blocking, workpiece destroy, affect the quality of workpiece surface and reduce the lifetime of the grinding wheel because of the randomness distribution of the grain abrasive. Making the ordered pattern of abrasive, improving the surface quality and the grinding performance of grinding wheel have become a key issue on the field of grinding technology. Therefore, the phyllotactic pattern theory in biology has been introduced into the design of end face grinding wheel in the article. And further research has been made for the ordered pattern of abrasive on grinding wheel, for the purpose of getting the best distributed and compact of grain pattern. It is very significative for studying the ordered control pattern grinding wheel and propelling the grinding technology forward.Firstly, the phyllotactic pattern was established by studying the phyllotaxis theory of biology in this paper. Using three dimensional software to establish the phyllotactic grain pattern grinding model, and put forward the design method of grain ordered pattern on wheel surface, finally finished the manufacturing of end face grinding wheel with abrasive phyllotactic pattern.Secondly, the mathematical model of roughness on grinding wheel with different pattern was established from the angle of kinematics, and the three-dimensional geometry morphology was analyzed for the rectangular pyramid grain of grinding wheel with different pattern by using MATLAB software; The influence on workpiece surface roughness was analyzed by different grinding parameters, meanwhile the simulation contrast was made on grinding wheel with phyllotactic, staggered, disordered and array pattern. The results show that the grinding wheel with phyllotactic pattern had better performance.Thirdly, the grinding machining experiments of end face grinding wheel was carried out. The influence on workpiece surface roughness by phyllotactic coefficient and grinding parameters was studied. The experimental results show that the workpiece surface roughness increased with the increase of phyllotactic coefficient K; Compared with other grinding wheels, the grinding wheel with phyllotactic pattern got the minimum value of roughness; Experimental results were consistent with the roughness trend resulted from MATLAB simulation.Finally, the grinding force experiment of end face grinding wheel was finished. The comparative analysis was made for the grinding machining experiment on grinding wheel with different pattern. The experimental results show that the grinding force of grinding wheel with phyllotactic pattern decreased with the increased of phyllotactic coefficient k; The end face grinding wheel with phyllotactic pattern got the lowest grinding force compared with staggered, disordered and array pattern.
