According to the defects of low machining allowance and efficiency of traditional external circular grinding, a new high efficiency grinding method has been proposed that is deep grinding with CBN bowl-shaped wheel. Research have been conducted from grinding mechanism, simulation, grinding process and experiments. The main work includes(1) Establishes a geometric model of deep grinding with CBN bowl-shaped wheel, deduces the mathematical formula of geometrical parameters which influence the grinding quality, analyzes the influence of grinding parameter to machining efficiency and quality.(2) Using ANSYS/LS-DYNA software, through the simulation analysis and summarizes the changing process of surface stress and strain in grinding process, and the relationship between grinding wheel linear velocity, cut deep parameters and grinding force.(3) Participates in transforming a deep grinding machine based on M1432B. Design experiment schemes, including the design, shape balance and trim of CBN bowl-shaped grinding wheel, and reasonable selection of experimental parameters.(4) Deep grinding experiments have been done on the modified machine. Obtained the effect of grinding wheel linear velocity, cutting depth to grinding efficiency, energy consumption, the work-piece surface etc. The results show that prototype basically meet the requirement of deep grinding.
