Surface quality is directly related to work performance, reliability and service life of the workpiece. High-speed machining(HSM) can remarkably improve the processing components quality, and has the extremely high production efficiency. However, so far a large number of trial cutting and machining experience have been relied to select the correct speed machining parameters, reasonable match workpiece material and tool, etc.There still don’t have a complete solution. How to use feasible, practical and effective way to get the best surface quality, reduce costs, increase productivity, become the main problem of machining.In this paper, the writer analysis the key factors of cutting process surface quality in-depth, use the method combining theoretical research and experimental verification.By analyzing the five kinds of materials(TA2, TC4 titanium, copper, H62 brass, QAL9)orthogonal turning test data, and using the test data to establish the workpiece surface roughness prediction model to study the effect of cutting parameters on surface roughness. The results show that cutting feed rate is the greatest impact on the surface quality factors, and the material itself has a great impact on the quality of the machined surface. Research material characteristics impact on the surface quality through calculating the energy barrier quantitatively, to measure the sensitivity of the material adiabatic shear strength. The results showed that the stronger adiabatic shear sensitive material is, the better surface quality. Study the effect of cutting force on the surface quality by the univariate turning test data of QAl9 aluminum bronze. The results show that the trend of surface roughness broadly in accord with the changing trend of cutting force. Above findings can help to reduce the surface roughness of study materials,improve the surface quality and cutting efficiency.
