Cutting head is one of the key components of roadheader, its cutting performance will determine the performance of roadheader. In the cutting head of the design process, picks installation parameters will affect the quality of cutting head, cutter loads and roadheader performance. So the research of cutting head of the installation parameters has important practical significance.Taking a longitudinal axis of the cantilever type roadheader cutting head for the study, it based on discrete element method simulate cutting head cutting coal work process and research influence of cutting performance and pick loads on different cutting angle, the angle of rotation on. The results provide a theoretical basis for improving and optimizing cutting head structure. The main work is as follows:(1)Establish a three-dimensional model of the cutting head. According roadheader cutting head of the basic structural features, it deeply studied on cutting head arrangement layout parameters and the mounting angle. It presents a three-dimensional cutting head assembly method based on PRO/E. By analyzing the trajectory of the cutting head picks, picks loads and working parameters, it get the simplified movement form of pick cutting coal.(2) Establish a three-dimensional discrete element model of coal. According coal structural characteristics, Particle generation method is proposed based EDEM. It used C ++ language to create external granule factory plug with VS compiler in accordance with EDEM API functions. It used the Hertz-Mindlin bond as coal particles model and Hertz-Mindlin no slip as the model between coal particles and geometry. The Uniaxial compression and Brazilian splitting numerical simulation were used to adjust coal sample parameters.(3)It is used EDEM software to simulated coal dynamic damage on pick cutting. It mainly study on process of coal fracture damage in cutting head work from the microscopic. By simulation of cutter head cutting coal on different installation angle, it obtained the relationship of cutting angle, angle of rotation affecting performance and loads of pick. It provided a reference value for a reasonable choice for cutting head installation parameters.
