In order to study on the relation of pick assembly angle and pick cutting performance when roadheader cutting rock and get the reasonable pick assembly angle, an analyze about the pick assembly angle used in actual project is done to assure the assembly angle that need to research in this paper. The pick assembly angle is described as cutting function angle and assemble process angle, and a translation method between the two kind of description way is built. Assuming that cutting resistance and traction resistance submit to Gamma distribution while side force submit to normal distribution, and considering their correlation, computer imitation is used by applying stochastic process theory and writing MATLAB programs, the magnitude and change law of cutting resistance,traction resistance and lateral resistance on pick are obtained. A deformable pick model fitted with cemented carbide peak and a rock model based on Extended Liner Drucker-Prager constitutive model are established by ABAQUS. The finite element model is simulated by explicit kinematic analyze module of ABAQUS/Explicit. Either the magnitude or change law of the Three direction forces on pick are obtained. Comparing the simulation result and the mathematics model analyze result, the reliability of the finite element model is verified. The influence of cutting angle and rotate angle to the force and moment when pick cutting rocks are studied according to change the position parameters of pick in the finite element model, and the change tendency of pick load characteristics following cutting angle and rotate angle are obtained. The influence of pick assembly angle to the pick rotate ability is analyzed using a dynamic model established by ADAMS, according to put the load and moment characteristics got in ABAQUS simulation into the dynamic model. The reasonable cutting function angle is obtained and is translated to assembly process angle. The result show that when the cutting angle is 42°~46°and the rotate angle is 7°~12°, the pick can cut into rock in a better way,and it is good for pick rotation. And it can also prolong the life expectancy and improve the working efficiency of cutting head. By translating the pick assembly angle to assembly process angle used in practice, a reference is provided for better design of cutting head of roadheader.
