The types of welding workbench can be divided into welding frame and welding turntable. They are mainly used in the welding manufacture for small weldment as auxiliary equipment, helping to support and fasten weldment, and fix or shift the position. Such workbenches usually assort with welding robot or special welder to make up of welding unit or welding workstation. They are widely seen in the modern automobile manufacture, mechanical engineering and panel beating industry. Reliable, practical and efficient welding workbenches can not only greatly help to decrease the intensity of manual operation, but also guarantee the welding quality, and increase the production efficiency.This paper is based on the practical project and the enterprise’s demands. It discusses the development and application of a kind of flexible welding workbench for automatic welding production to typical and small weldment. This welding workbench is collaboratively operated with welding robot. It can accurately position weldment, and is easy to shift, and welds efficiently in both sides welding.The thesis was firstly started with the design to the mechanical part of the welding workbench, including ontology structure, rotation and retroflexion drive plan, lectotype and check for key parts. Then the control system was designed by the needed function, radicating semi closed loop servo control system controlled by PLC. Relatively design for control unit hardware and function module software, and system debugging were at its heels. In succession, PID parameters were tuned and corrected by the Critical Proportioning Method after system mathematical model was buildt. Test for positioning precision of welding workbench was done subsequently. The following was analysis to the deviation cause, and plans to compensate errors, and optimization through fuzzy adaptive algorithm to the traditional PID controller. At last, production application test was conducted in the lab, following the production effectiveness evaluation to the welding workbench in accordance with the test results.By the means of combining theoretical research and project training, the automatic welding workbench based on PLC has been designed, proved, optimized, manufactured and tested. The evaluation indicates that the welding workbench basically meets the welding production demands of the enterprise.
