With the increasing of exploitation quantity in coal resources, coal miningarea ecological destruction and environmental pollution problems become moreand more serious. Especially the land destruction is the most serious, which willbe extremely threaten to the sustainable development of economy in coal miningarea. How to accurately learn about the land damaged trend caused by coalmining becomes an important topic of the current research. For similar coalmining area in Shanxi Province, coal mining, mining damage control, andgovernance of mining area ecological environment restoration providestheoretical basis and technical support.The exploitation of coal resources has damaged lots of land and changedthe land using nature. Take Changzhi city for example, thanks to the coal miningpromote the development of economy, while at the same time the large scalemining seriously harm the local ecological environment. So it is imperative toanalyze the land destruction condition and trend while timely come up withsome effective management measures for the ecological environmentconstruction of coal mining in Changzhi area. It will take much greatconvenience and efficiency for the land management department of miningenterprises, If we can timely update the land using information and data and getthe land using types, area and damaged trend information.GIS not only can fast and accurate be used in quantitative analysis, but alsocan manage a large number of attribute data and spatial data at the same time inthe process of large land using information. At present, in the management ofland resource, GIS can dynamically monitor surface subsidence process, timely update and carry on the spatial analyze to the land using data, it can also be usedin coal mine area land reclamation and cadastral management work. So it ishelpful to achieve scientific and information for the mine land managementwork by using GIS to manage the land source use and change.This paper take the coal mining area of Changzhi as research, Through thegeological investigation for the typical coal field and the collection analysisabout the related information of coal mining, To conduct statistical analysis forthe land using condition and the type,distribution and area of the damaged land.Then the deformation and subsidence software and buffer analysis function canpredict the area and the damaged condition of the land. At last, The spatialoverlay analysis function summarize the land use change before and aftermining, The trend of the land destruction caused by coal mining: with the boostof coal mining work, coal production increase and the damaged land area alsoincrease. The damaged area of cultivated land, woodland and grassland is largerand has a big fluctuation change, but others change weakly. It will contribute tothe management and sustainable utilization of the land destruction by analyzingthe damaged coal mining area land and make suitable measures. All of this willbe vital for protecting the precious land source and make sure the sustainableuse of the resource in coal mining area.
