With the rapid development of global economy, the demand for energy and dependence of the world is growing rapidly. Especially the demand for oil and gas is gradually increased. Vertical storage tank being as the industrial liquid storage facilities of petrochemical and related enterprise with increasing demands, they are usually used for storing flammable, explosive or even toxic medium for petroleum. Vertical tanks are usually used for storaging dangerous goods. Once damage occurs, it not only brings in immediate disaster fires, economic losses, environmental pollution and other secondary disasters will appear as well. Therefore, the seismic study of large vertical tank is particularly important.On the basis of the analysis of the modal analysis of the structure, considering the impact of three dimensional seismic excitations, via using the finite element software ADINA, dynamic analysis for the finite element model and simplified modal of large vertical tank was made. And parameter sensitivity analysis was adopted to research the influence degree of each parameter on structural resonse, which can be considered as a kind of basis in design of aseismatic structures and engineering practices.1 Modal analysis of vertical tankThe finite element modeling of large vertical tank by using the finite element software of ADINA was established. The finite element models with different volume were constructed, through which modal analysis were done respectively. The first ten frequencies and corresponding modes were obtained form modal analysis. The frequencies obtained by software were compared with thoses obtained by the standard method. The result can be reference for the vibration characteristic analysis of vertical tank system.2 The seismic response and parameter sensitivity analysis of vertical liquid storage tankTwo seismic records and an artificial seismic wave were selected to analyse the seismic behaviors of the model by using time-history analysis method. The acceleration extremes curves, displacement extremes curves, stress extremes curves and speed extremes curves along the height of the tank wall were obtained, as well as the time history curve of acceleration, displacement, stress and high liquid sloshing wave of the typical nodes. And parameter sensitivity analysis was adopted to research the influence degrees of each parameter on structural response.3 Seismic response analysis for simplified model of liquid and ground of vertical storage tankA simplified model of tank liquid and a simplified model of ground were established respectively, in which its natural vibration characteristics was analysed, as well as the correctness of the model being verfied, and at end the seismic response of simplified models was analysised.
