In this paper, We take the spindle box which is a non-rotating body parts of TKS6111and THM65160 as the research object. It’s a High-precision CNC horizontal boring machine coordinates manufactured by Shenji Group Kunming Machine Tool Co.Ltd.Combined with the results of previous research and our study topics,We made the following research and exploration.At first,we made much theoretical research and preparation, learned that the existing group technology and process group project are all mostly taken the components, especially the revolving body components, as the research object. Classified and grouped by the similarity of components, more or less by the visual inspection method,and then developed the corresponding components classification coding system and grouped corresponding manufacture process technology. The correlation research of non-rotating type parts, such as box etc., is very lack.Secondly, we took the encoding system of Japan KK-3 and China JLBM-1 as the foundation and reference object, developed the KMTL-1 coded-classification system for the research object in this paper based on the relevant theory of group technology. It has been found that the box components are all obtained by the Boolean operation of a series of feature, and the purpose of all mechanical processing are making the design features into workblank. Features not only could describe the geometry information and topology information completely but also could establish the inevitable contact with process information, and features has became the communication medium between design process and manufacturing process. So this research made the characteristics of the components as the foundation and breakthrough point to explore and expound the subject.We further analyzed that the core work of technology grouping ought to be providing the mechanical processing link of product with convenience and guidance, and offering normalizing and standardized parameter to workers straightway, and improving product quality and enhancing economic efficiency of enterprises eventually. So we carried out the cutting experiments and optimized the processing parameters in this paper.During this stage, we applied the existing mature research techniques adequately, cross-linked the theoretical research, experimental detection and analog simulation and combined the Taguchi method, response surface methodology and particle swarm optimization into the cutting parameter optimization, to lay the foundation for the further work of group technology and the further realized of CAPP.In this paper, box parts machining process into a group of research programs and routes. Through parts machining process carried out by a group related to exploration and research,we found that as one of the important difficulties of the implementation of group technology, it is difficult to unify the processes and group the box-type parts by the way of traditional classification methods. So developing the new special classification and coding system, unifying and standardizing the processing technology is the main emphasis of the works.
