The test aims at the fact that diesel from direct coal liquefaction (DDCL) possess good cold flow properties, low sulfur content and bw aromatic content, using diesel blending method to improve the properties of DDCL. This paper makes full use of the advantages of DDCL to make sure that DDCL can be able to make better used, which has important implications for direct coal liquefaction new diesel oil’s development. The paper can be mainly summarized for several points:first, the properties’ research about DDCL. We evaluated the properties of DDCL such as:density, viscosity, flash point, clod flow properties (solidifying point, cold filter plugging point), cetane number, lubricity, sulfur content and acid value carefully, and introduced the test methods accordingly. We also point out the clear direction for the method to improve properties of DDCL. Second, the improvement research of cetane number (CN) for DDCL. According to the comparison of DDCL’s properties and standard of automobile diesel fuel GB 19148-2013, and find DDCL posses low CN and lubricity. We take fatty acid esters as a potential cetane number improver for DDCL, and the other properties of blending are also evaluated. Third, cold flow properties research of blending with DDCL and 0# diesel fuel. According to the comparison of DDCL’s properties and 0# diesel fuel, we take DDCL as a new kind of perfect pour point depressant for 0# diesel fuel. Besides, crystallization behavior was also investigated via differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). Forth, improvement research of DDCL on direct vegetable oils. We make full use of the fact that DDCL posses very low viscosity, and take direct vegetable oils as additives to improve viscosity of DDCL, and made it possible for using direct vegetable oils as fuels in daily life. Fifth, feasibility of using diesel from direct coal liquefaction/biodiesel blend as fuel in arctic or severe winter climates. In this part, DDCL was regarded as a potential fuel that can be used in arctic or severe winter climates. According to the fact that DDCL posses low CN and lubricity, we take biodiesel as additives. The blending oils are evaluated according to EN 590.
