The traditional cutting fluid used in most of the mineral oil as base oil, biodegradability is poor, have a greater harm to the ecological environment and the health of the operator. The rapid development of modern machinery manufacturing industry, the quality standard of cutting fluid is also getting higher, both the improvement of cutting technology, improve the liquid feeding mode, or to strengthen the management and control of cutting fluid, can eliminate the harm of cutting fluid fundamentally. Facing the huge personal safety and environmental challenges, the most promising approaches is the design and development of the green cutting fluid formulation. At present, the domestic research on cutting fluid only concentration on development of modified or new additive in base oil, few studies on the stability of cutting fluid micro-emulsion system and the selection of surfactant which has good emulsification with base oil. This topic selection of structure is relatively uniform, good receptivity on additives, low toxicity and naphthenic oil, good biodegradability of vegetable oil, synthetic ester as base oil cutting fluid instead of mineral oil, and actively exploring the optimal proportion of different surfactant and base oil. Then choice optimal surfactant of cutting fluid formulation, prolong the service life of cutting fluid, reduce waste emissions and environmental pollution, save energy, reduce the cost of production. This paper choice a different series of surfactant emulsify base oil (naphthenic base oil, synthetic ester oil and vegetable oil) and water to form micro emulsion. Investigate the effect of different surfactants on the stability of micro-emulsion formation of base oil, additives, and water from the surface active agent, HLB value, mixing ratio of anionic and nonionics, carbon chain length, the number of head groups, the ratio of catalyst to oil and auxiliary additives etc. Characterized by different methods such as number of stable formula obtained as well as surface tension, contact angle tester, light transmittance test, dynamic test and laser particle size analyzer, foam height comprehensive evaluation of the formula, surface active agent and all kinds of base oils adaptive optimal performance. Choose the surfactant has optimal emulsibility with all kinds of base oils.
