With the development of the world industry, the issue of environment pollution has become more serious, especially the water pollution. In some parts of Yinchuan, Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, the groundwater source is excessively high in iron and manganese and badly polluted to some extent. But the traditional way to deal with those polluted water generally cannot make the water meet the drinking water standards in our country. Therefore, it stands out as a big concern for the water corporations that we should adopt some effective new approaches to purify the water. In recent years, as people are taking pains and making great progress in this field, we gradually realize that the biological method will be an economical and efficient way to treat water pollution. This essay aims to make experimental preparation for the third water corporation in Yinchuan and provide some data for later reference as well.In this experiment, quartz sand and manganese sand are used as filter material, which works for mixed bacteria inoculation and enhancing. Then, the method of Biofilm domestication was adopted to develop the filter material for the biological iron-manganese removal. In the meanwhile, the distribution of microorganisms in the filter layer was observed. The whole experiment was divided into two periods, with the first half year being the first period. Based on the research, we can draw the conclusion that it is better to choose quartz sand as the filter material in the first period, while using the manganese sand is more reasonable in the later months. If everything is taken into consideration, it is suggested that the effect of using both manganese sand and quartz sand should be studied.
