The Ming-style furniture is a peak in the development of Chinese classic furniture, and still favored by people because of its elegant shape and scientific structure after hundreds of years. As a mature furniture style, Ming-style furniture possesses uniqueness, stability and consistency. With further research, we find that parts of Ming-style furniture have formalization and modularization.So this laid the premise for the creation of parametric template model.Solidworks is a full parametric feature modeling design software applied in mechanical engineering industry widely. It is powerful, and easy to operat. After learning,I found Solidworks can be applied to furniture design and manufacture absolutely, and it has unique advantages. So this paper selects Ming-style furniture as the object, and researchs parametric model library of Ming-style furniture based on Solidworks.This paper summarizes and analyzes the physical features, structure features and process features of all kinds of Ming-style furniture firstly, and analyzes the features of Ming-style furniture combined with the characteristics of Solidworks modeling. Firstly,achieve the basic modeling methods of Ming-style furniture by Solidworks, then study the parametric design method of Solidworks by a greater distance, explore the creation of a variable parameter-driven model of Ming-style furniture. Finally, utilize the localization, user-oriented features of Solidworks software, establish the parametric template model library of Ming-style furniture in the environment of Solidwrks,make the designer easy to find and call. And analyze the application of the parametric template model library with cases. Nearly two years of exploration, prove that no matter in the preliminary concept design or in the late post-production-oriented engineering design of the furniture, Solidworks possesses feasibility and superiority.The research results are as follows:(1)On the basis of the depth study of the shape characteristics, structural characteristics and production process of Ming-style furniture, studied the method of creating three-dimensional model of Ming-style furniture by Solidworks, and described two basic modeling method- bottom-up and top-down respectively with examples.(2) Above the basic modeling method, explored the Parametric design method of Solidworks further, and applied it to the design of Ming-style furniture, and described the ideas and methods of the creation of parametric model from the part level, component level and product level respectively. And summed up advanced parametric modeling methods of Ming-style furniture.(3)Established parametric model library of Ming-style furniture in the Solidworks environment, and divided the model library is into common parts, common component, common furniture and common hardware four parts, and classified the parametric template model scientifically and named them systematically. Make the framework and hierarchy of model library clear, and enable the storage, management, invocation of parameterized template model more convenient, greatly improved the reuse rate of corporate design resources, and reduced repetitive work.(4) This paper also studied the value of some Solidworks functions such as rendering studied, explosion, interference checking, schedules, quality assessment, finite element analysis and the other applied in the Ming-style furniture design.And proved the feasibility and other software incomparable superiority of Solidworks in the development and production of the Ming-style furniture.
