With the rapid development of modern engineering and machinery, metal and alloy products gradually improve the material performance requirements. Heat treatment play an important role in improving the material properties and quenching is an essential part of the heat treatment process. Traditional quenching methods already can not meet the requirement of the high performance of work piece. In this paper, taking gas as cooling medium, made the research on gas quenching temperature field of variable thickness disk, designed an open gas quenching device and conducted an experiment to check the air supply system.Firstly, this paper determined the form of the end jet pipe of the gas quenching structure based on the shape characteristics and cooling process requirement. The jet pipe were placed at the center of the disk and the upper and lower surface, air ejected from the pipe made heat convection with the surface. Since gas quenching is a multi-physics coupling process, in order to fully understand the cooling effect of gas quenching and guide the structure design of gas quenching device, using FLUENT simulated the transient flow field and temperature field in the process of gas quenching, calculated the cooling rate and temperature uniformity of the process, analyzed the effects of environmental parameters and the structure of gas quenching device on the result of gas quenching.Secondly, this paper completed the design of gas quenching device according to the requirements of alloy heat treatment and the simulation results. Gas quenching device includes the special spreader, end pipeline system and the rotating platform. It can be adjusted to accommodate different sizes of disc and make partial quenching.Then made the static analysis using finite element software.Finally this paper designed gas supply system including PC, frequency changer, Roots blower, flowmeter and DAQ Card, analyzed of the pressure drop and gas flow. Then designed flow control system based on Labview including data acquisition, data processing, serial inverter control and made the control experiment,the results achieve the desired requirements.The results of the paper has a certain guiding significance on gas quenching process of variable thickness disk.
