Municipal Solid Waste(MSW) is the waste discharged by people living in cities, ranging from kitchen residues, fruit leaves, useless paper, discarded plastic, rubber, glass, medal, lumber and gravels. MSW in China features complex composition, nonuniform dimensions and inhomogeneous physical properties, due to high moisture content and low energy density, the incineration of MSW leads to low combustion efficiency and secondary pollution problems. The comprehensive treatment technology based on sorting can effectively solve the problems.Analyzed MSW from parts of Chinese cities, and found the calorific value of MSW increased with the economic development level, the calorific value of MSW can estimate from the ultimate analysis through empirical formula of Q=82C+329H-33O+25S-6W.MSW can be divided into three parts with new separation equipment which spend less than 300 square meters, lower than 10 k Wh/tons energy consumption, and have high degree of automation combustible matter; compostable matter and recyclable matter, then utilize them respectively.This article does not adopt the traditional refuse derived fuel(RDF) technique to deal with the combustible matter after sorting, but explore the effect of torrefaction process on the product characteristics instead. The results showed that most of the energy remains in the solid product, the chlorine content in the product sharp decline, dropped more than 58%, can effectively reduce the formation of dioxin during the gasification or incineration process. When the torrefied temperature below 350 ℃, the calorific value of the product is high, and the energy yield is over 90%. The product brittle and fragile, easy to grind, and have higher energy density, lower pollutant content, it is much more suitable for energy use.For the compostable matter, this article mainly introduced the dry anaerobic fermentation technique, and introduced how to increased the landfill gas collection rate to 90% and control the smelly gas at the same time by using the PVC membrane and negative pressure suction, and then introduced the utilization of landfill gas(methane) in a more advanced way and its characteristics.Finally, compared the MSW comprehensive treatment technology and incineration for power generation found that the MSW comprehensive treatment technology is much better than incineration for power generation in the aspect of economic and environmental benefits, but the MSW comprehensive treatment technology should rely on the landfill site.
