Rubber aging is inevitable, especially for unsaturated rubber. It is necessary to delay the aging process to prolong the service life of rubber products. Therefore, it is realistic to prepare the most efficient, multi-purpose and environmental protective rubber additives.In this work,a kind of efficient lanthanum salicylic acid(La-SA)rare earth complexes rubber antioxidant was synthesized and characterized by fourier transform infra-red spectroscopy(FTIR), X-ray diffraction(XRD), energy dispersive spectrometer(EDS)and element analyses, and its molecular formula is suggested as La(C7H5O3) 3 ? 2H2 O. Then La-SA was applied in natural rubber/silica(NR/SiO2) and styrene-butadiene rubber/silica(SBR/SiO2) composite materials, and the curing properties, mechanical properties and antioxidative properties of the two composites were investigated, and compared with conventional protective agents in industry snch as MB, RD and 4020..It was found that the La-SA played the role of promoting vulcanization and shorting the vulcanization time of the NR/SiO2 and SBR/SiO2 composites.,. It could improve both the tensile strength and tear strength of composite materials, and promote the improvement of the network structure of rubbers.Thermal oxygen aging test results showed that NR/SiO2 and SBR/SiO2 composites with La-SA have anti-aging effect, and the effects were superior to those of the vulcanizates with antioxidants RD and MB. Ultraviolet aging test results showed that La-SA also has the ultraviolet aging resistance, and the effect was similar to thermal oxygen aging. Ozone aging test results showed that the two kinds of composite materials with La-SA have outstanding resistance to ozone aging, Optical morphology results showed that La-SA could resist the growth of crack on the rubbers surface at different aging time, so as to maintain the mechanical properties of rubbers, and the effects were superior to those of the vulcanizates with antioxidants MB, RD and 4020.La-SA could play flexing resistance in composite materials,and the effect is superior to the antioxidant MB. Complexes also could reduce the akron abrasion volume of the composite materials and improve the wear resistance of rubber, and the effect was more obvious in NR/SiO2 composite material.
