With the promotion of mechanical mining technology and dense medium separation process, the ash content of flotation feed is higher and the size composition is fine. Nowadays, many coal preparation plants have to confront the problem of high ash content of flotation concentrate in flotation system. So the heavy medium system will be influenced and it will have negative impacts in coal preparation plants.This paper is rely on the production of Linhuan coal preparation plant and using coal sample of Xu Tuan to analyze the main problem of flotation system and put forward transformation method to solve the main problem of flotation system. The main problem of flotation system is the high ash content of flotation concentrate,which is about 11.5%. But the demand of ash content of flotation concentrate in plant is about 10.0%-11.5%. The ash content of flotation concentrate in third and forth cells of flotation machine is obviously high. The condition is analyzed in the laboratory by the simulation of flotation machine.This paper is to decrease the ash content of flotation system in LHCPP, so two different transformation of flotation system is carried out. Firstly, the method is using secondary flotation by flotation machine or FCMC. According to the data of secondary flotation, it has been proved that this method has positive effect on flotation system. The ash content of flotation concentrate has been decreased and the result of secondary flotation by FCMC is better than flotation machine. But the ash content is about 11.0%, which is relatively high. Secondly, another method is using primary flotation by FCMC. The study of FCMC is carried out in laboratory and good results have been obtained under certain circumstances. The ash content of flotation concentrate is between 10.0% and 11.0%. Besides, according to the data of FCMC in coal preparation plant, the requirement of flotation concentrate of flotation column is satisfied. The ash content of flotation concentrate is between 10.0% and 11.0%. The problem of high ash content of flotation concentrate is wonderfully solved by using flotation column and the pressure of heavy medium separation is released.According to the data of plant and laboratory, both the secondary flotation by flotation machine and FCMC can reduce the ash content of flotation concentrate, but the ash content is relatively high. Primary flotation by FCMC can decrease the ash content of flotation system and satisfy the requirement of LHCPP.
