The paper intends to figure out the way that American alternative media talks about Chinese environmental issues. Three famous alternative media: Alter Net, Democracy Now, and Inside Climate News are the research objects. Alternative media see themselves as members of the social movement, they provide the grassroots people with a stage to make themselves heard. This trend is quite obvious in the battle of environmental protection.The study found that alternative media reflect the specific ecological rational point, the value judgment was largely occupied by the ecological centre doctrine, and the application of technology, as well as unrestrained economic development, were viewed as major causes of destruction of ecological balance. In order to protect the earth, alternative media advocated all the people to take action; they also urged the government to work on the international level of cooperation, in order to maintain the interest of humanity and future generations.And compared with the developed countries, such as Europe and the United States, China should assume a secondary responsibility for climate change; China’s environmental decision-making is concentrated on the central government, while the public’s environmental dynamism remains to be enhanced; China has set a role model in developing clean economy..Alternative media’s reports also throw some light upon the construction of "beautiful China". At the international level, China should actively practicing environmental commitment, building the image of a responsible big country; At the policy level, China should perfect the environmental laws and regulations, and ensure the implementations; At the social level, China have to enhance the grassroots’ environmental participation. Finally in the cultural level, China should actively promote ecological civilization, promoting the international influence of "beautiful China" governing idea.
