Gear is an indispensable basic class part in the machinery industry. The accuracy and productivity of the gear is determined by the gear cutter directly. The gear cutting tools occupy the important position in the machinery industry. Gear hobbing is the most widely used processing method when processing gear, so that the design of gear hob has always been the research hot pot in cutting tool industry. In order to improve the design efficiency of the gear hob, reduce redundant labor and simplify the design process, also for the shortcoming that just focuses on parametric design according to the topological structure and geometric information of the model and lacks of the description of the processing information. Taking gear hob as the research object, this paper develops parametric design module and production management module of the gear hob based on the UG platform after analyzing the structure of gear hob by finite element software.This paper firstly analyzes gear hob structure and dimension formula, then the static and modal analysis of the gear hob is carried out to the finite model of single tooth and overall hob respectively after analyzing the cutting force in the cutting process of hobbing to provide checking method for the structural strength and stiffness of the hob and get the vibration performance. Furthermore, analyze the influence of different length ratio on the dynamic characteristics of the hob by comparison to provide theoretical reference to the design of the hob to meet the use requirements.The parametric module of the hob is developed on UG platform using UG secondary development tool and MFC to simplify hob design. This module includes developing interative GUI, programing modeling program and interface functions to call the database of structure data.Process database and the turning and milling information database are developed which can achieve the function of search, insertion, deletion using ODBC interface and SQL statements based on analysis of hob production and processing information for the lack of the description of the processing information in the parametric process. Furthermore, the query function of the processing information of the hobs in storage is added.In order to overcome the defects of of C language graphics rendering function, the idea of C language and MATLAB hybrid programming is proposed and applied in UG secondary development. Furthermore, the interface technology of MATLAB and Visual C++ and the technology of data exchange between MATLAB and MFC are studied. Based on the above mentioned idea, the figures of the rake face and the shovel back of the hob generated by MATLAB are embedded in the MFC interface and can realize the dynamic update display by inputting data through MFC interface. Using C language to develop the program of cutting calculation.
