As one of the major transmission parts in the drive line system, the gear and the level ofprocessing play an important part in the development of the transmission area and the entiremanufacturing industry. The gear hob is an important processing tool for gear machining, whilethe level of the designing and production of the gear hob would seriously affect the accuracy ofthe machined gear, and further affect the development of the gear industry. Because of thecomplex structure and the strong appropriability, the gear hob need to be tailor made to meet therequirements of hobbing for the machined gear. Meanwhile, it puts forward higher requirementsfor the design and manufacture of the gear hob that the gear, utilized frequently in machine,trends to be individual and diversified, as the development of machinery towards the orient of"top grade, exquisite, distinctiveness". However, the traditional method of designing hob,depending on manual or universal CAD, may bring heavy workload , low efficiency , lowaccuracy and error prone, so it can no longer meet the demand of gear cutting and even restrictsthe development of gear severely.To change this situation, it is of great necessity to adopt the advanced informationtechnology to completely change the methods of designing hob, so that to enhance the efficiencyand reliability of designing hob, and to promote the development of gear. In this thesis, based onthe parametric design and the application of practical experience, with the help of theobject oriented language Visual Basic 6.0 as the development tool and AutoCAD secondarydevelopment, according to the process of designing hob, the design system of the gear hob isdeveloped. This paper mainly obtains the following contents: completing the process ofdesigning and drawing of gear hob, as well as optimizing the hob tooth profile; calculating andanalyzing the parameters of the machined gear to improve the reliability of design; developing thedesign system of gear hob; establishing the database system based on the SQL Server, to make data maintenance more scientific.In practice it has been proved that this system can greatly enhance the efficiency ofdesigning hob, shorten the design cycle, improve the reliability of design, and lay the foundationfor further integrating CAD / CAPP / CAM.
