Machine tool is the base product of manufacturing industry, and it is also an important factor affecting the development of manufacturing industry. As a form vibration of machine tool, chatter limits the machine’s processing capacity, reducing the processing efficiency. When chatter happens, it reduces surface roughness, reduces tool life, increases tool wear. So research the mechanism of chatter is important to increase manufacturing capacity.(1) Based on the study of chatter mechanism, this paper designs a software of turning chatter prediction and simulation, analysis the changes of stability lobe diagram under different parameters, A variable step size method, which adjusts the step according to the spindle speed to ensure the algorithm convergence and meet the accuracy requirement is adopted to simulate the time-domain process. This paper uses fourth-order Runge-Kutta method to analyze the nonlinearity and the self-excitation of turning chatter.(2)Based on CJ0625, this paper gets it’s frequency response function by test and distinguishes the nature characteristic.(3)This paper introduces the process damping effect, analyzes mechanism of process damping, calculates the process damping force, calculates the coefficient of process damping by using the equivalence of impulse.
