At the recent few years, the requirement for the high surface quality of moulds and dies is more urgent than ever before, which makes the EDM mirror manufacturing regarded. To obtain long operating life of moulds and dies, this technology is to reduce the surface roughness and enhance the mechanical performance. This paper introduces the primary principle and the major methods of EDM finish machining include the planetary EDM, the multilectrode EDM, the powder mLxedielectric EDM and so on. Then the process of the powder mixedielectric EDM was stressed in this paper. Some phenomena happen in the process of ED~ing were explained when fine powder is inti-oduced into the dielectric fluid as a suspension at the toolorkpiece or interlectrode gap. Some explanation would also be given. At last, we did some experiments to demonstrate the effect by introducing the powder into the dielectric in EDMing. The paper indicates that the appropriate settings of electrical parameters, the sufficient machining time (about 15 hours) is necessary to achieve the mirrorine surface (Ra0.217pm)of the workpiece in area 100>000mm. |
