Chemical composition of tobacco is very complicated, though more than 4,000 of components have been identified. After a cigatette is burnt, there are actually more than 5, 000 chemicals in the smoke. The content of the active principles of ginseng and Gynostema pentaphyllum is very low. This research used big梙ole absorption resin to pre梥eparate and collect the active principles. At the given conditions, the recovery rate is 95.7%. In the analysis of the cigarette samples, sample collection of the mainstream smoke was conducted using the regular smoking machine stipulated in ISO 3308. The sample cigarettes were smoked following the standard YC/T29?996 of the tobacco industry of our country. The Cambridge Filter was used to collect the mainstream smoke, and solvents were used to extract through ultrasound to analyze the content of Rg1, Re, and Gypenoside. This research for the first time used reverse high performance liquid chromatography, photoelectric diode array detector and external standard method to determine the contents of Rg1 and Re in ginseng and Gypenoside. It was found that good linear relationship was presented when Rg1 was 5. 02~?0. 06p.g , the collection transfer efficiency was 18.2%, and the filter transfer efficiency was 16.0%. A satisfactory linear relationship was obtained when Re was 3.46?4.75jig , and its collection transfer efficiency was 6.5% and the filter transfer efficiency was 11.9%. Gypenoside showed a good linear relationship when it was 0. IV?. 63~ig. The collection transfer efficiency was 14.97% , and the filter transfer efficiency was 21.59%. Repeatability tests showed the the RSD% in each sample was within 0.23?. 11%. Compared with the normal methods, such as thin條ayer scanning, spectrophotometry, etc., used in analyzing the active principles of normal medicines (medicinal herbs, herbal medicines), the method 3 established by this research is specific, precise in qualitative studies and convenient in analyzing the active principles of the new blend cigarettes. This research came as a branch research topic from a key research project by National Tobacco Monopoly Bureau, which was entitled Studies of the Analyzing Methods in Analyzing the Active Principle oh Herbal Medicines Added to New Blend Cigarettes?(Serial No. 0655). This research is contributive in that it has established a set of methods tha can be used to control and analyze the active principles of ginseng and Gynostema pentaphyllum in new blend cigarettes. It has proved in another angle that the making of new blend cigarettes is scientific and they are effective. In addition, it plays a role as demonstration in the establishment of analysis and quality control methods of other new blend cigarettes. This research has filled a blank of our country in scientific quality control of new blend cigarettes and is significant for guiding scientifically the research and production of the cigarettes of this kind. It will promote early perfection of the national quality control system of new blend cigarettes.
