Coilers are the important equipments on the production lines of hot strip mills. The qualityproblems of their operation always affect the production efficiency of the whole lines. For the mostserious situation, they will spoil the production of the whole lines. Therefore, developing coilerswith the best property and strength is the urgent work for all Iron and Steel companies in theworld. Concerning the domestic backward situation, studying the dynamics of coiler andimproving the existing coiler will lead enormous benefits to our country.This article is concerned with the problems of 3# coiler in Tai Yuan Iron and Steel Co, suchas: loose -coil and head-tower. The various factors effecting coiling quality have been found out onthe research about coiling system. The dynamic behavior of roller is one of the crucially importantfactors. Therefore, roller is the topic of this article. At first, according to the mechanical vibrationtheory and detailed analysis on coiling the different stage mathematical models of coiling are set-up. The correlation equations of the models are also given. Then, the paper presents an analysis ofthe moment of inertia of coiler in hot strip mill in detail, the equation of the inertia moment and theanalysis. The machinery dynamics of roller is also illustrated. At last The dynamic simulation iscarried out using MATLAB in order to get the exact value of critical revolution. Internal reason ofbad coiling are described. The achievements, such as computation equations, the basic data andcorrelation parameters in this article will be provided for further study in the future.
