For the purpose of realizing the plasma arc cutting on engineering ceramics, a technical basic research has been made on it. Engineering ceramic material has been applied in many fields for its attractive properties. But engineering ceramics material is hard to be manufactured, so it has been restricted in many fields for its further applications.Based on the elaboration of the currenl situation and the characteristics of the technology of laser cutting, abrasive water-jet cutting , EDM cutting on engineering ceramics and for the low conductivity of engineering ceramic, a new method with high productivity has been offered. This method is additional positive pole plasma arc cutting. Its feasibility has been proved by experimental.The factors, which affect the temperature field distribution during additional positive pole plasma arc cutting on engineering ceramics, have been studied. The factors can be used in improving precision, quality and productivity during plasma working. The gas flow during plasma arc cutting has been assayed, which can direct the design of the structure of nozzle.The experiment has been made on the affecting regulation of quality when use different additional positive pole materials and cutting velocity. The parameters of manufacturing have been discussed. The experiment has shown that this new method has its own advantage and good prospect.
