Hydrophilic homopolymers and copolymers were synthesized and their hydrophilicity was studied. Synergism and complexation of hydrophilic polymers were investigated.Homopolymers such as PVA, PAMPS, PAA> PMAA, PAM and copolymers such as AA-AMPS, MA-AMPS, HPA-AMPS, AM-AMPS were synthesized by solution polymerization. The hydrophilicity of polymers was listed according to their hydrophilic value and was discussed in detail. Synergy theory was put forward and it was used to explain the hydrophilicity of copolymers. Synergism could change hydrophilicity of copolymers effectively and more study on synergism would contribute to improve hydrophilicity and other performances of polymers.Complexation of hydrophilic polymers had an obvious influence on viscosity and hydrophilicity of polymers. In complex PAA-PEG, when pH=4 or 8,complexation between polymers was strongest. In complex PAA-PVA, complexation was strong when in basic solution. Complexation mechanism was investigated. Complex polymers were charactered by TDA and X-diffraction and it proved that complexation could change crystallinity of polymers and complexation existed in polymers.A hydrophilic coating is developed and its orthometric test has been done. The ingredients of the coating are: PVA 52%,PVP 31%,glyoxal 7%,AMPS 5%,AM 5%. The process conditions that influenced hydrophilicity are discussed. The best process conditions are: cure temperature 250癈, cure time 20S, pH 2, coating thickness 0.7um. The coating has a good performance to be used as aluminum fins.
