Compared with the development of edge-water reservoirs , the development of bottom-water reservoirs show the following characters: earlier water break-through, shorter non-water-production period, quicker water-cut increase and higher production cost, etc. All these traits make the development of such reservoirs more difficult, at the same time, they also indicate the direction to improve the reservoir management and economic profit. This paper studied techniques of bottom-water reservoirs during production. These techniques include: 1. critical rates of wells; 2. barrier theory of bottom-water reservoirs; 3. break-through time of water in wells. Furthermore, the correlations of critical rate and gas breakthrough time of oil reservoirs with gas-cap, and critical rate and water breakthrough time of bottom-water gas reservoir are discussed in this paper and presented here.Based on the barrier theory of bottom-water reservoirs , the management model of bottom-water reservoirs are investigated. A new management model was proposed in this paper. It includes: 1. geological study of reservoirs; 2. identification of the natural barriers; 3. determination of the perforation interval of wells; 4. determination of production schemes; 5. prediction of break-through time of wells; 6. prevention of coning problems in bottom-water reservoirs by artificial barrier setting. The new model is a powerful tool to curb coning of bottom water and increase the profit of reservoir development. A software system was programmed suitable for bottom-water reservoir management.
