With the development of world industry, the problem of pollution is getting more and more serious. Most pollutants are also toxicants. They can cause biochemical changes in human beings' tissue and fluid, destroy normal functions of organism when they are absorbed. Heavy metals are of great latent harmful to human beings. They can't be decomposed by microorganism, but they accumulate in organism and are transformed into metal-organic compounds, which are more harmful. Heavy metals are threatening human beings' lives. So the synthesis of especial effective fluorescent reagents, establishing rapid, simple, high sensitive and selective methods for the determination of heavy metals and accomplishing the real-time, on-line, on-situ and automatic determination are of great value. We developed a series of researches in the synthesis of especial effective fluorescent reagents, fluorescent determination of heavy metals in environment and its flow injection analysis. The paper was divided into three parts:Part I: A series of Schiff base, hydrazone and benzothiazoline fluorescent reagents were synthesized.Part II: The fluorescence quenching effect of Cr3+, Pb2+ on the fluorescence intensities of o-vanillin-8-aniinoquinoline was studied, and their corresponding sensitive spectrofluorimetry methods were proposed.Part III: Combined with flow injection technique, highly sensitive, on-line and automatic spectrofluorimetry methods for the determination of heavy metals were developed. A simple, rapid and sensitive spectrofluorimetry method for the determination of Cd2+ by flow injection analysis was developed based on the coordination reaction of Cd2+and o-vanillin furfuralhydrazone in the medium of pH10.00 to give an intensely fluorescent product. Based on the oxidation of the ?weak-fluorescent reagent pyridine-2-aldehyde benzothiazoline in acidic solution by Cr(VI) to give an intensely fluorescent oxidation product, Cr(VI) solutions used as carrier, the reagent was injected, a sensitive, selective method for the on-line determination of Cr(VI) in sludge was proposed.
