The paper gives a description of the development and present situation for the carbide Drill research; brings forward the concept of the new carbide Multi-faced Drill(MFD); compares the performance and character of carbide with other materials of tools; points out the requisition and necessity of researching and developing new carbide MFD; introduces the grinding principle and the building model method of the new carbide MFD and the mathematic equations of each face, based MK6335A Number-controlled Grinding Machine for Drill.The new carbide MFD is a kind of drills, which are used to drill holes. It is characterized as a highly rigid, wearable but rather fragile and collapsed. Because of this, this paper recommends a way to avoid shaped angle, increase intensity, reduce the possibility of collapsing and improve longevity of drills by curved blade, and gives the mathematic models and the relation of geometry parameters and grinding parameters, which provide theoretically foundation for automatic grinding new carbide MFD at MK6335A,then designs the Automatic Programme System for numerical control grinding drill, which runs on Windows Me flat and bases on the modularized configuration.At last, New carbide MFD is grinded successfully at MK6335A Number-controlled Grinding Machine and the experiments for drills life and parameter optimization are processed. The measure values of parameters are identical with the design values and 3 optimized parameters are obtained. It shows practically that the mathematic models are right, the Automatic Programme System designed in this paper is reliable and the new carbide MFD provides better drilling performance than double-faced carbide drill.All research above shows that new carbide MFD, which eliminates shaped angle by curved blade, can effectively prevent collapsing. Consequently, the new drill is worth popularizing and applying in practice.
