In order to study the slurry erosion properties of the particle reinforced polyurethane composites, a slurry erosion test apparatus was designed and manufactured based on the considerations of comparison between the present slurry erosion apparatuses and cost factor. The slurry erosion test apparatus proved to stable and reliable through tests, and it can be applied to material selection and erosion mechanism research.Polyurethane composites contained different content of alumina and silicon dioxide particles were prepared, and the alumina particle was processed with two kind of silane coupling agent which models were KH550 and KH560. The results of mechanical properties tests show that the tensile strength and the breaking elongation of the polyurethane composites decreased with the increased amount of particles, and the hardness increased with the increased amount of particles. The tensile strength and the breaking elongation of the polyurethane composites processed with KH550 coupling agent were better than those of the polyurethane composites processed with KH560.Slurry erosion tests were carried out with the manufactured test apparatus in order to study the erosion properties of the polyurethane composites. The results show that the wear resistance of silicon dioxide reinforced polyurethane composites decreased with the increased amount of particles, and the wear resistance of the alunima reinforced polyurethane composites first increased but then decreased. The wear resistance of the alunima reinforced polyurethane composites processed with KH550 coupling agent were maximum at the volume content of 15%.The erosion mechanism of the particle reinforced polyurethane composites was discussed preliminarily through the worn surfaces analysis, and the economy of the alunima reinforced polyurethane composites was also analyzed.
