In order to improve the performance of jet cutters, four types of the cutters have been investigated and re-designed based on the methodology of analysis and experiment. Exam test demonstrated that the performance of the new cutters were satisfactory.The main job done are as follows: Because of the needs of improving the cutter performance, fundamental theories of detonation and jet formation and penetration were concerned. By the theories it can be seen that the function of the metallic liner plays a critical role of cutting. Therefore, it is also critical to improve the qualities of explosive charge and metallic liner.By elastic-plastic analyzing of metallic cylinder, a formulas of pressure resistance was derived. According to the demand of pressure resistance to the cutter, the least thickness of the cutter casing can be calculated by using the formulas. Pressure resistance test showed that the analysis and the calculation are correct and reliable. By the theory of cantilever beam of material mechanics, an examining formulas of screw strengthness of the jet cutter body was also derived. And we also examined its correction and reliability by experimental test. By the related arithmetic, the seal ring was designed, and owing to this the problem of the low initiation rate of explosive charge was solved. The configuration and structure of explosive charge and the conic liner were re-designed, and the re-design was examined by test. The test showed that the incised part was smooth and the damage to the environment was negligible. The test result demonstrated that the re-designed cutters are able to meet our requirement. The technologies of metallic liner processing and explosive charge pressing and jet cutter assembling were also studied and improved. Therefore, the symmetries of the conic liner and the explosive charge and whole assembly can be obviously improved, and so is the performance of the cutter.
