In the paper, the feasibility of β-cyclodextrin as level-dyeing agent in dyeing of PET microfiber with disperse dye was studied.β-Cyclodextrin-C.I.Disperse Yellow 23 inclusion complex was obtained by blending water with acetone and changing pH value of working bath. During the preparation of inclusion complex, the factors affecting the ratio of encapsulation were studied. The optimum procedure was formulated by orthogonal experiment with four levels and four factors. We discussed the influence of different factors on the ratio of encapsulation by analysis of variables. The inclusion complex of β-cyclodextrin-C.I.Disperse Yellow 23 was identified by different ways such as its appearance, DSC, UV spectrum, solubility in water, and dyeing rate onto PET microfiber. The influence of P-cyclodextrin on dyeing performance of PET microfiber with disperse dye was studied through the measure of absorption rate, migration percent, building-up and compatibility of dyes. The changing of absorption isotherm by adding P-cyclodextrin was also discussed. As a result, the addition of p-cyclodextrin could change dyeing performance and absorption isotherm of some dyes which could be included into p-cyclodextrin's hydrophobic core. The inclusion mechanism of guest molecules into cyclodextrins was discussed based on the study of inclusion between P-cyclodextrin and dyes. The conclusion was that the form of inclusion complex was dependent on both molecular structures of cyclodextrins and guests and the strength between them. We simulated the spacial structure of dyes and β-cyclodextrin with CS-Chemoffice chemical software. Meanwhile, we measured the size of dye and P-cyclodextrin. The inclusion complex was formed easily when the sizes of guest molecule or its groups were similar with that of cyclodextrins' core. The stability of inclusion complex was influenced by the strength between cyclodextrins and guest molecule. Hydrophobic bond was main impetus of inclusion process.β-Cyclodextrin which is an inexpensive, "green" and environmental friendly chemical, is an effective level-dyeing agent in dyeing of PET microfiber with some disperse dyes.
