Curcumin[l, 7-bis(4-hydroxy-3-methoxyphenyl)-l, 6-heptadiene -3, 5-dione] is a naturally occurring compound which is the main coloring principle found in the rhizomes of the plant Curcuma longa. Curcuma longa is a traditional Chinese medicine. Curcumin will be a promising anti-cancer agent as its advantage of lower poison. We prepared seven curcumin-related compounds, 4,4' -(1, 6-heptadiene-3,5-dione-l,7-diyl)benzole acid methyl ester; 4,4' -(1, 6-heptadiene~3, 5-dione-l, 7-diyl)benzole acid; 1, 7-bis-naphthyl-l, 6-heptadiene-3, 5-dione;1, 11-bis-phenyl-l, 3, 8,10-undecatetraen-5, 7-dione;1, 7-bis(4-hydroxy-3-methoxyphenyl )-l, 6-heptadiene-3, 5-dione;1, 7-bis(4-hydroxyphenyl)-l, 6-heptad iene-3, 5-dione;1, 7-bis(4-methoxyphenyl)-l, 6-heptadiene-3, 5-dio ne by using vanillin. 4-hydroxybenzaldehyde. cinnamaldehyde et al and 2, 4-pentanedione as materials. Mainly Methods are the vanillin and the boron complex of 2, 4-pentanedione were dissolved in ethyl acetate in the presence of tri-n-butyl borate and a primary aliphatic amine, which was kept at 80 for 3 hr. It has a good yield and high pure. We identified the structure of these compounds by NMR, IR and MS. The anti-tumor activity was investigated by MTT assay and apoptotic assessment assay.
