The melamine-formaldehyde (MF) resin has been successfully modified using Benzoguanamine (BG) and polyethylene glycol (PEG) as the modified agent. The modified mechanism of BG and PEG to MF resin was discussed, and the action mechanism of the modified agent of the filature resin solution was also discussed. The preparation technics of the filature resin solution have been obtained and the firstborn fibers were prepared. The effect of solidification technics on the structure of fibers was studied by FTIR, XRD, DTA and TG The results indicated that the decomposing temperature of the fibers reached 370 ℃. The influence of solidification technics on the mechanical properties of fibers has been investigated. The results showed that, for the filature resin solution modified by BG, the break-stress reached 180N/mm" and elongation ratio reached 13% when the fibers were solidified at 160℃ for lh. For the filature resin solution modified by PEG, the fibers solidified at 130 ℃ for 3h, their elongation ratio was above 13%. The toughness of fibers modified was greatly improved while the excellent flame-retardancy was maintained.
