Oceanic cobalt-rich crusts removal is an important step in ore mining. For the first time, the dissertation was making the theoretical and experimental research of cobalt-rich crusts vibration cutting removal and taking technological demonstration and feasibility analysis of this method. From the point of view of fracturing mechanism combined with the physical properties and mechanical cutting characteristics of cobalt-rich crust and the result of CT real-time testing of cobalt-rich crusts meso-damage evolution law under uniaxial compression, the author analyzed the cobalt-rich crusts meso-damage mechanism and the process of cobalt-rich crusts fragmentation, found that the damage of crusts is mainly due to the meso-crackle and aperture evolving along the interface of high density area and low density area in the crusts. Based on that, the author in review of fracturing dynamics, analyzed the effect of vibration on the breaking mechanism of cobalt-rich crusts, and concluded that the cutting force and unit energy consumption will be reduced if cobalt-rich crusts are broken by vibration cutting. According to that a vibration spiral cutting drum was designed and finally a vibration cutting test of simulative cobalt-rich crusts was carried out on a self-made rock vibration cutting test-bed, and an optimizing cutting parameters group was found. The test proved the advantages and feasibility of cutting drum combined with vibration to remove cobalt-rich crusts. The obtained theory results coincided well with the testing results. All of the contents in the dissertation represent strong innovation, theoretic value and realistic significance. The research in this dissertation founds the theoretic base for the vibration cutting technique to remove cobalt-rich crusts and provides a technical antitype for the design of cobalt-rich crusts vibration cutting head in the future.
