The purpose of the thesis is to design a cutting header with excellent performance to adapt to the microtopography of the cobalt-rich crust.First, the thesis analyzed the research background, status of the oceanic cobalt-rich crust. Then the theory of substrate surface-fitting, the concept of false protuberance and the basis false protuberance highness were put forward after analyzing the microtopography of the cobalt-rich crust. A few concept designs of the cutting header were brought out to adapt to the microtopography. Then we chose the Main- Auxiliary Roller cutting header from them. The vibrancy spiral roller cutting header was designed to improve the cutting performance of the roller which was checked and an array of optimal parameters was be obtained by the experiment. In addition, the optimal cutting depth of the rotary cutting drum for mining cobalt-rich crust was modeled in this paper. The mathematic solution and the simplified solution were both provided in this paper. All of the contents in this paper had the realistic significance. The research in this thesis provided a firm foundation for mining the cobalt-rich crust in future.
