On The Role Of Science And Technology For Sustainable Development

Science & Technology plays a decisive role in sustainable development. While it was creating material benefits for the people, increasing social welfare and improving the people s living level, it also brought about many side-effects such as resources shortage, energy crisis, environmental pollution, soil desertification and organisms extinction. We cannot think that they are two completely different conceptions because of these problems. This opinion is not only wrong but also dangerous. The author try to make it clear that there are no positive contradictions but coherent connections between Science & Technology and sustainable development, via analysing science & technology s trully, practical, effective, general and harmonious nature and arguing its recognition effect and practice effect, we should not deny science & technology s value because of the above-mentioned problems, whoever started the trouble should end it, we should set up the idea that sustainable development's final realization needs science & technology's influence. First is science & technology's recognition effect upon sustainable development, and second is science & technology's practicing effect upon sustainable development. The above-mentioned recognition effect mainly expressed that science & technology's truth recognition is the inherent evidence of sustainable development; science & technology's rationalization and effectiveness are critical to sustainable development's realization; and science & technology's generality and harmoniousness can guarantee sustainable development's total enforcement. The practicing effect includes three aspects: protecting and developing the resources, promoting and safeguarding the development, protecting the ecological environment and creating new ecological environment, it is further deepening and stretching of sustainable development's theory. In other words, the side-effects aroused by science & technology should not deeply influence sustainable development, we should make full use of the active aspects of science & technology and promote the realization of sustainable development. Meanwhile, the dual-nature of science & technology was also analysed in this paper: the side effects do not stem from science & technology itself, but the people's observation Limitation that they didn't realize the developing tendency of science & technology, the nature and human society, this misunderstanding would lead to wrong-doings. And the inherent nature of science & technology would also be used by different interest groups.
