Plastic forming equipments are widely used in manufacturing. However, the control system of most of equipments stays at the level of electrical relay. This kind of special system cannot meet the need of high quality requirement of products. In addition, the system has a closed structure. Open architecture CNC system, which has the characteristics of commonality and configurability, is an effective strategy in developing the CNC system for plastic forming equipments. The paper studies the control characteristics of plastic forming equipments and thinks that software-oriented CNC system is an effective strategy in developing the CNC system for plastic forming equipments. Also the main research content and technical characteristics are discussed in detail. A new lamellar reference model is designed in the paper, and the corresponding communication system and configure system is designed.A series of key technologies on software-oriented CNC system is studied in the paper. The NC instruction set for plastic forming equipments is designed by referring to G Code. Based on this, a new NC code explaining strategy based on intermediate file is put forward. In the paper, the execution pattern of buffer instructions is presented. Multitask scheduling strategy is designed which includes macroscopically scheduling and microcosmically scheduling in consideration of the characteristic of Windows operator system. In the end, the software prototyping system which is based COM and is developed in Windows 2000 is introduced. The lamellar reference model, NC code explaining strategy based on intermediate file and multitask scheduling strategy proved with good effect in the system.
