In this paper, the effects of composition, second-phase compound, microstructures and textures on the mechanical property of aluminum foil were systematically studies by means of composition analysis, SEM. x-ray diffraction, optical microscopy, TEM and ODE The results show that the fracture of aluminum foils is different from that of block materials. The fracture surface of alumium is flat and the strain of grams near the fracture surface is small, therefore only few grains cause the fracture of aluminum foil When the ratio of Fe to Si is above 3.0, the tensile strength of aluminum foil decreases with the increase of Fe/Si. If the amount of small second-phase compound is large and they distribute uniformly, the heterogeneity of the microstructures of aluminum could be improved. Reduceing the size of the second-phase compound and increasing the proportion of the small-size second-phase compoumd is advantageous to the strength of aluminum foil. The pattern and precipitation position of the composition hase a greater effect than that of annealing process Massive composition precipitating on the grain boundaries will damage the integrity of grain boundaries, so it's necessary to prevent the composition from precipitating on the gram boundaries in order to raise the strength of aluminum foil. There's a close relationship between the size of subgrain and the dislocation density Aluminum foil with small subgrains has a higher tensile strength. Aluminum foil with strong rolling texture will also have a higher tensile strength. When the density of Cu- and S-components is high, the transverse tensile strength of aluminum foil will larger than the longitudinal tensile strength. With the increase of the proportion of Bs- components, the density of Cu- and S- components is reduced and the difference between transverse and longitudinal strength of aluminum is narrowed.
