Superfine Slag Powder Is Cement

Some properties of granulating slag used as mixing material of cement have been summarized. The applications of slag ultra-fine powder in cement and concrete were briefed together with the research and practical application of slag ultra-fine powder in the cement industry. Also the production technology of slag ultra-fine powder was introduced.Using slag derived from the cement plant of Shandong Aluminum Corporation, ultra-fine powders with different specific surface areas were produced. They showed some perfect properties. The effects on consistency, strength of the neat cement slurry and property of cement concrete and the transform rules when slag ultra-fine powders with different specific surface areas were mixed with "Shanlv" cement clinker in different proportions were studied.The bigger specific surface area of the slag ultra-fine powder was, the larger effect it had on the fluidity of the neat cement slurry and the strength of the cement body. When the specific surface area of the slag ultra-fine powder reached 400m~2/kg, its average particle size apparently turned smaller, which made most slag particles in the cement join the hydration reaction, therefore, the fluidity of the neat cement slurry and cement strength were effectively improved. Strength increasing ratereached its top level when the specific surface area increased from 300m /kg to 400m /kg, and gradually turned slower when the specific surface area was above 600m2/kg. Compared with common cement body, the one with slag powder additives had more reasonable and thicker pore size distribution and more optimized pore structure. With higher late strength increasing rate, thicker structure and other excellent properties, the concrete made by cement with slag powder additives was proved to be superior to common concrete.At the end of the article, primary mechanism was discussed about the role of slag powder in the process.
